Pomegranates: Nutrition Benefits & How To’s

Pomegranates are considered a SUPERFOOD because they are a rich source of antioxidants like polyphenols and flavonoids, natural enzymes, essential vitamins and minerals. They are naturally low in fat, saturated fat free, cholesterol free, sodium free and an excellent source of fiber.

5 reasons I love pomegranates!

1. Rich in Vitamins and Minerals

A single pomegranate contains nearly:

  • 30% of the vitamin B9 (folate) you need in a day.  Folate is important for cell production.
  • 50% vitamin C you need in a day.  Vitamin C is great for strengthening your immune system and improving iron and antioxidant absorption.
  • 60% of the vitamin K you need in a day which improves blood and bone health.

Pomegranates also contain vitamin A and B vitamins like pantothenic acid, and pyridoxine which have a lot of health benefits.

Pomegranate are full of minerals including calcium, potassium, copper and manganese that give a proper balanced nutrition for good health.

2. Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Pomegranates possess potent anti-inflammatory phytochemicals.  Pomegranate juice may have two to three times the antioxidant power of equal amounts of green tea or red wine.

3. Improves Digestion

Pomegranates are a rich source of dietary fiber, both soluble and insoluble fiber.  These fibers help your digestive system become smooth, improve digestion and regulate bowel movement.

4. Boosts Immunity

Pomegranate juice has strong anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties which help fight viruses and bacteria and boost our immunity system.

5. Heart Healthy

Pomegranate helps fight cardiovascular disease and improve heart functioning, by keeping the arteries flexible and decreasing the inflammation in the lining of the blood vessels. Pomegranates also improve blood circulation by lowering the risk of blockage in the arteries which can cause a restriction in the flow of blood to the heart and brain. Daily intake of pomegranate juice has been proven to reduce atherosclerosis, which is one of the leading causes of heart disease. In addition, as little as ¼ cup of pomegranate juice daily may improve cardiovascular health by lowering bad cholesterol (LDL) and increasing good cholesterol (HDL).

I know why I love pomegranates, but why do you?
